Job search

I'm currently in the process of looking for jobs. I tried to submit applications online few days ago and still never heard anything yet. One of my friend told me to send application of where she worked but i am too hesitant since the area is about 34 minutes away from our house. She is working at the technology jobs but i just can't afford to carry the responsibility because of the fact that i don't drive yet. This time i wanted something partime and more closer to home. Is it impossible to ask?
